She may take samples of mucous and tissue to see if you have a bacterial or viral component of your hoarseness. If she determines that the problem is in the soft tissue around the voice box, she may use a special scope to look further down your throat.
Treatment may involve resting your voice, taking medications and making lifestyle changes. Surgery may be required for any growths that are causing your hoarseness.
